I don’t know how to work uim-anthy on Emacs 22.2 of Ubuntu 8.10.
So I use uim-toolbar instead of uim.el.

After installing uim set,
#im-switch -c
then select “uim-toolbar”, then logout and login.

Setting
XIM -> check “Anti-alias”
this check prevents Emacs from character’s jaggies.
