Ubuntu 8.04-ja’s xdvi fonts are kochi.
Ubuntu 8.10-ja’s xdvi fonts are IPAMona.

Download the xdvik deb package for Intrepid (8.10).
Then install it in Hardy (8.04).
Now xdvi fonts are changed with IPAMona.
IPAMona is easily replaced with IPA.

8.04’s xdvi is customized for kochi,
so only if you replace kochi to IPAMona,
character’s layouts would be out of alignment.
